Kathy Milner and Joe McKay founded American Quality Foods in 1994. American Quality Foods started in Newfane, Vermont with three employees and has grown into a multi million-dollar operation in Asheville, North Carolina with a staff of 25 employees.

The original purpose of the company was to fill a need for nursing home diabetics who had very few options for desserts. After searching the market, we found that the existing products were made with too many fillers and lacked variety and taste. Kathy started from scratch and developed her own formulas and sampled them to many nursing homes throughout New England. The response was tremendous and more and more products were developed and marketed not just to nursing homes, but also to any facility that had a need for great tasting, sugar free, low fat dessert products. After 11 years and working with thousands of facilities we are still growing by leaps and bounds.

Although we have grown tremendously since our inception, we have never lost sight of our founding principles. They continue to be the driving force behind everything we do.

 

Our purpose is to:

Develop and market products that are superior to the competitors by using the best possible ingredients and make sugar free desserts that are as close in taste and texture to standard desserts.

Exceed the customers' expectations for quality and service. Never forget that our customers are our most important asset.

Provide a workplace where employees are valued and treated like family.

We manufacture all of our sugar free dessert products using our own proprietary recipes in our Asheville North Carolina facility. The sales, packaging and distribution operations are located in the Asheville facility as well. We operate our facility for two shifts a day, five days a week.

 

During the past two years we have undergone a major expansion tripling our manufacturing capacity by adding additional blending and packaging equipment. This year we have improved our computer infrastructure to be able to more efficiently process orders and interface with our customers electronically.

       

Kathy Milner is the President of American Quality Foods and with Joe McKay founded the company in 1994. Prior to starting the business, Kathy worked in the thin film electronics field as a research scientist for DuPont and an Engineering Manager for Photronics. Kathy received her B.S. in Environmental Chemistry from Florida Institute of Technology and did her graduate work in Polymer Chemistry at New York Polytechnic.
