Mills River, NC (April 12, 2010) – American Quality Foods, located 15 miles from Asheville, NC, in Mills River, NC, is a wholesale manufacturer of low- or no-sugar, reduced fat, low calorie, low sodium dessert mixes. Begun as an entrepreneurial endeavor by Kathy Milner in Vermont in 1994, the company was founded to service diabetic populations with high quality, satisfying desserts. Milner, who studied polymer chemistry at New York Polytechnic Institute, moved the company to Arden, NC, in 1999, quickly outgrowing two facilities before building a 17,000-square foot facility in Mills River, NC in 2007.
Milner’s background in chemistry and new product development has been instrumental in creating and testing products for the company. What began as a three-person operation in a retrofitted Vermont barn (with Milner and her husband being two of the employees) now employs 32 people and continues to grow accounts annually as consumers look for healthier dessert options.
