According to the CDC, heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death and disability for Americans; however, through easy lifestyle changes, heart disease can be prevented and controlled.
The first steps in improving heart health involve diet and exercise. The CDC recommends limiting salt intake and aiming for at least 30 minutes of daily activity. This can include cooking at home, eating more fresh fruits and vegetables and going on a walk with a friend.
Beyond diet and exercise, other factors, including managing stress and other health conditions, are also vital in maintaining a healthy heart. Uncontrolled stress and health conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, can take a toll on your health, making you more susceptible to heart attack and stroke. However, taking time to relax, monitoring your blood pressure and working with your doctor to manage any health conditions can reduce your risk for developing heart disease.
Improving your health shouldn’t be overwhelming. Small changes can have a great impact on your quality of life and the health of your heart. Click here to learn more
